RE: OH to SD...route....and how late before snow?

Route to Texas.....where.
I29 south to Kansas City
I70 west to Topeka
I335 southwest to Emporia
I35 south.....as far as Laredo, but many other connections to other places. We USUALLY take I35 to I410 in San Antonio to I37 to US281 south to McAllen and then US 83 to Mission.
Hope this helps

RE: mission texas

The biggest down side we have seen, in driving by, is that there is a railroad track that is right next to the south side of the park. It looks like a nice place other than that.

RE: Colorado 17 - The USA's straightest road?

Actually US 34 does go north and west out of Lincoln. However, the road itself continues west out of Lincoln as US 6 until it gets just north of Milford where it junctions with NE 15. There US 6 heads south and on to the west towards Hastings and NE 15 continues north to Seward and beyond.
I am confused US 34 and US 6 are different streets in Lincoln, US 6 is Cornhusker Highway and US 34 is "O" Street. US 34 does cross under US 6 on the west side of Lincoln (actually I 180). US 34 continues west to Grand Island where it turns south and joins with US 281 to Hastings. In Hastings it joins with US 6 until just west of McCook, Nebraska. Now US 6 is pretty straigh and flat from west of Dorchester to Hastings, much more so than US 34.

RE: Activities, Attractions, Dining, Rio Grande Valley TX 08-09

We can't wait to get back to Costa Messa in McAllen, Texas. 1621 North 11th Street. Best tex/mex IMHO and the service is great. If you are going for lunch go early as the crowds are big between 12 and 1.

RE: Colorado 17 - The USA's straightest road?

US 34 is fairly straight from Milford to Ne highway 79 which is west of Lincoln, then it becomes part of Interstate 180 and actually runs north/south until it hits "O" street (goes by the UNL football stadium)then once out of Lincoln it is fairly straight until it jogs north at US 75 and goes into Plattesmouth. I don't know about being able to see the curvature of the earth, it is mostly straight but does go up and down. That part of Nebraska is not flat, it is "rolling hills". I have driven that hunk of road thousands of times in the last 45 years.

RE: 240 volts to the RV?

Even though nothing in my coach runs on 240 volts, the Energy Management System "looks" for the 240 volts to determine if we are plugged in to a 50 amp service, if it doesn't see it it will shut down equipment when we exceed 30 amps total.
We were on a 50 amp service when we first bought it that was not 240 volts, but 120 volts (same phase to both legs) and the coach would manage the equipment as if we had a 30 amp service.

RE: silverton railroad

Puppy Love seems to be the one that most of our customers use. If you are going to be on the late train that doesn't get back until after 6:00 PM there will be additional charges for picking your puppy up late. You may want to take the train up and the bus back.

We were up there just 2 weeks ago and every motel, campground and Bed & Breakfast had the "No Vacancy" signs out. Very busy place! Ate lunch at Poker Alice's....GREAT FOOD and interesting place.

RE: Compensation

So sick of hearing park owners taking advantage of workampers. So what your well off, what about the next guy that needs to work there? Do you care? Do you know you are lowering the standards for the next couple? Just keep that in mind the next time you want to work cheap. Some where down the line, it will come back to haunt someone.
I am not sure how park owners "take advantage" of any one. Every job I have accepted I knew what the pay was and what work was required BEFORE I accepted the job.
I am not now nor have I ever been a "Union Man" I am worth what I get and I have no idea and could care less how much the next guy makes. I have MY knowledge, skills and abilities and THAT is what I market when applying for a job.

RE: Red Mountain Pass ......

We have driven this road at least 12 times this summer and have yet to make the trip without some one coming the other way on our side of the road. It may be only a foot or so, but there isn't an extra foot to give away in an RV.
Some of the people driving RVs over this strech of the road are the ones sharing the on-coming traffic's side of the road with the rear wheels.
There are other alternatives that are much less frustrating.
It is a beautiful drive in some thing other than an RV.

RE: Tx Travel info center-can you overnight?

We stayed at the one at Exit 502 on I-35 last October. Asked the guy driving the security car around when we got there, he said yes. Went to sleep had a Class C on my right, when I awoke we were surrounded by RVs.
The security car was there driving around all night, the wife seen him several times when she got up during the night.

RE: out of state purchase please help

In "border" cities this is a common occurence. I bought my travel trailer in Council Bluffs, Iowa but registered it in Omaha, Nebraska. I only paid the Nebraska sales and personal taxes. When we changed our residence to South Dakota and bought our current motor home in Council Bluffs, Iowa and registered it in South Dakota we paid the South Dakota sales tax and registration fees.

RE: Durango riverside campground.......

What use to be DuRngo North KOA is nowDurango Riverside
IF you are interested in fishing in a lake, I would go to Vallecito, it is about 18 - 20 miles from Durango and a very nice drive. There are even several Marinas on the lake that would be glad to rent you a boat or sell you bait. There are also several campgrounds on the lake.

RE: Southwest Colorado Options

For breakfast in Durango go to The Durango Diner, it is right on Main Street. More food that I can eat at reasonable prices. Mexican food in Durango, go to Francisco's...good food and GREAT Margaritas. Ariano's Northern Italian Restaurant makes a veal parm that is fantastic, kinda pricey but worth it. Steamworks is one of our favorite places. Also Mondays are hamburger night in Durango, go to the Palace...great burgers.

RE: Pay For Hours Worked?

The site that I am parked on would rent for $43/ night times 30 nights is $1290 a month, they charge me and the wife 10 hours a week or 40 hours a month @ $7.50/hour that is $300 a month. Even at twice the hours it would be a bargain. And yes it would be rented EVERY night, we turn folks away here or send them to other campgrounds EVERY night.
I think that if you don't like what is being offered in an ad you should not apply for the job. You should go on and find some thing that appeals to you. That is what we do. BUT, what I want for MY time and effort is MY business.

RE: Expected Campground Compensation?

I agree with Dianne. I was making more than $35/hour when I retired and was expected to answer why others screwed up and what I was going to do to make sure it didn't happen again. I wouldn't go back to that for twice that amount, BUT I DON'T NEED TO! The last year my wife worked for a real JERK so when she had had enough I told her to tell him where to stick his job and put in her papers, she did. Before her retirement date came about he was gone, they had fired him. The new supervisor asked my wife to retract her retirement, but she declined, she said once she made the decision there was no going back.
Last year we worked for $8.50/hour and this year we are working for $7.50/hour, but we are in an extreemely beautiful area and the owners are FANTASTIC! We will be back here next year because the owners are great and the other workamper couples are great. We can see a lot of this area in 2 or 3 years (summers only) and not see anything twice. I would come back here even if it paid less because it is such a great work environment.

RE: MH freezeproof for staying winters in Northeast?

Before we went full time, we were working at the West Omaha KOA and living in our Stixs N Brixs during the winter. There were something like 20 RVs that were there all winter, even when it was -30. They were designed for full time living and seemed to do alright. They did insulate the sewer line as well as the water line and you only open the gray water valve to dump.
These were traveling nurses and construction workers. The smart ones also called the local propane company and ordered a 250 or 500 gallon tank and used it. Lots of propane burned.
